Teacher Training for the Blind

To address the acute shortage of trained teachers of special education, IAEF sponsors teachers from India to receive yearlong educational training at the internationally acclaimed Perkins School for the Blind (established in Boston in 1829; credited with educating Helen Keller) and apply their new learning to educating the disabled in India.

IAEF distributes Universal Braille Kits to visually impaired children throughout India through Vidya Vrikshah , a non-profit organization based in Chennai. The kits are manufactured by WorthTrust, Inc. (Chennai). IAEF also supports Snahalaya Tust ( Gwalior ) and PNR Society (Bhavnagar, Gujarat), an umbrella organization covering multiple disabilities.
