IAEF is partnering with Perkins School for the Blind (Boston) on the Voice and Vision project. The objective of the project is to establish a community of professionals working with disabled children and to develop training materials for teachers of special education. Our vision is to set up such training centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
To implement the training developed by Perkins, IAEF will provide computing equipment to be used for training teachers who work with blind and deaf children. IAEF plans to popularize use of special software developed at IIT Madras and available, free of charge, to enable the blind to learn in a variety of Indian languages, along with English, the universal language used in Braille. Plans are underway for partnering with such organizations as theAmar Jyoti (Delhi), Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf and DeafBlind (Mumbai), Vidya Vrikshah (Chennai), Blind People’s Association (Ahmedabad), and Manovikas Kendra (Kolkata).
